Facing Barriers and Overcoming Them
Puneet Bery
December, 2020

I have always had the inner drive to obtain knowledge and have had a true passion to be the best version of a father/husband/son and most importantly an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur I have truly believed in the concept of adaptability to succeed as a venture.

Today's business cycles are so rapid and changing that a business that fails to adapt will lose its value in the scale of the global economic platform. If I go back to the roots of my business, my father's company was a small single manufacturing unit which produced diesel engine crank shafts. It employed around 20 people. At that time I was young and always had a vision to think in terms of a global spectrum. Before diving into my fathers business, I took time to review the industry and the future of the market. Post my review I came to the conclusion that there was a major industry change that was taking place in the market that we were in. There was a major electrification drive in India that could make our product obsolete.

Concept of adaptability

Therefore, moving ahead with my concept of adaptability, I tried to fully utilize the machine capacities. I aimed that KSP as a company should have global outreach as a company.  I aimed to make sure that my capacities are fully utilized by making sure that we as a company produced an item that had year round volume.

After studying my capacities and the market, the company went into the manufacturing of pipe line flanges.  The idea behind this was to manufacture and export these flanges that would allow KSP as a company to have global footprint. Our manufacturing operations had grown and we had added additional machinery. We as a company continued to export flanges for five years.

I truly believe an entrepreneur's journey is not fully tested if his skill set and thought process is not put to maximum use. This was done to me when the USA government put a trade embargo on the import of flanges to support their local industry.   This made me work on the concept of adaptability once again, I went back to the drawing board. I was hoping to find a product mix to manufacture which was very new and nascent to the Indian manufacturing industry.   I explored both European Markets and Global Markets. I started the manufacturing of Garden Décor products.   We started the supply to all big box stores which include: Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Tesco, Staples, Ikea, Sainsbury, Tractor Supply, Joane's,  B&Q, and Target.

The progress

Over time we had scaled are operations about multi fold. We grew from a small single operational unit which just employed 20 people to having 4 operational facilities spread across Noida. These units are spread across 112,000 square feet. I am currently employing over 650+ people.  Overtime we aimed at being one of the most automized operations across India.

Again I decided to increase my product mix and added other categories (Home Storage, Fire place accessories, Furniture). We are currently one of the few companies that hold a Walmart green compliance. I have always aimed to be a social and ethical compliant company.   I am proud to say that all our products are available in all big box stores in global markets and in the top 3 largest exporters of metal goods across India.  As an entrepreneur I am happy to face barriers and always in the spirit to overcome them.

Countries exported to are USA, UK, Denmark, Germany, Sweden , Canada, Australia and France.
