Lokusdesign - Molding Brands
SME WORLD Bureau
May, 2014

The idea of formation of Lokusdesign evolved during the days when Chandrashekhar Badve studied design at the National Institute of Design (NID, Ahmadabad). Design always intrigued him and as a child he used to open up his toys just to understand how they were created. This curiosity resulted in him spending countless hours on the domes thinking about how it would all be weaved and formed. Observing some of his fellow mates being sure of their next moves in college, Shekhar was still struggling between the choice of going independent by starting a business or by taking a practical decision to join the world of established design firms. By the virtue of being a part of a reputed design institute, he felt the need to find a niche in the design industry and start working towards the difference they were all seeking to make.

Idea & Gap

The idea of initiating Lokusdesign came from an understanding that there was a huge gap between 'what a brand aspired to be' and 'what it actually was'. Shekhar and his friend Milind Risaldar realized that the industry required a fresh perspective and ideas that would effectively bridge this gap; hence, they launched LokusDesign with the motive to fill in this void in the industry. The aim was to associate with brands and translate 'smart brands' to 'intelligent products'. A few years later, Siddharth Kabra, an NID alumnus, joined forces and from then on there was no looking back. Thanks to the support of lot of well wishers who helped them sail through some ups and downs successfully and enriched them with some amazing experiences.

Business Model Evolution

Over the course of time they have evolved to become well constructed brand and packaging design consulting firm, with clear objective to create 'ideas of impact' that enables brands to manifest and leverage their core business objectives by strategic innovation and design interventions. Lokusdesign has enabled brands to communicate their core essence in the most simple, effective and desirable way through branding and packaging solutions.

Credits and Achievements

It's been a decade since Lokusdesign started off and they have evolved in so many ways due to the continuous engagement with the brands, consumers and their peers in the industry. Recently Lokusdesign has been felicitated with “Professional Business Service of the Year” award by 4th Small Business Awards 2013. Along with that Lokusdesign has since achieved high performance expertise in focused verticals along with several notable credits. They have been the 3rd global company to design the US FDA approved F=1 child resistant pack, have more than 150 prestigious clients across various sectors, 40 product patents under processes, over 260 projects under design registrations and this acknowledgement of their work has been an overwhelming experience for them. The next leap for Lokusdesign will be to provide breakthrough designs that create impact for brands and products with unmatched competitive advantage.
