After getting admission in Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) computers and software grabbed Gautam's attention, since then he acquired the taste for software programming. The idea for the formation of Josh Software was conceived when Gautam and Sethupathi were working with Veritas (now acquired by Symantec). Gautam and Sethu (as he is more popularly known) took a risky step of leaving their lucrative salaried jobs and starting their own business of programming. In 2007, the awareness about the Ruby language and the Rails framework was negligible looking at the good level of awareness about Ruby internationally. Gautam and Sethu decided to jump at this opportunity and develop web based applications on Ruby on Rails framework. They had an innate enthusiasm and passion for building pioneering web solutions hence the name Josh Software Private Limited.
Idea and Gap
The idea of starting Josh Software came from an understanding that there was a huge gap in the software industry in terms of awareness of Ruby on Rails. Ruby was a lesser known language in the industry and moreover lack of skilled manpower for development of web based applications on Ruby on Rails was a bigger gap. The aim was to develop innovative web based application right from the concept, design, implementation to maintenance stage. Josh Software has always believed that “Programming is an art”, the brand has unique organizational process focused on building solutions to facilitate high performance, scalability and high-standard code quality.
Funding and Promotional Activities
Josh Software is a self-funded organization where initial investment was made by Gautam and Sethu. An active blog that posts details about the work and research done at Josh provides organic online marketing. Branding and marketing initiatives are done through regular media outreach activities targeted towards software programmers and end users. Ruby on Rails solutions can be employed in virtually any given industry under the sun. Ruby is an open source language and Josh Software is doing its bit to spread awareness about the language and contributing back to the Ruby open source community; Josh Software promotes Ruby on Rails by organizing and sponsoring annual Ruby Conferences and organizing regular meet-up groups. Josh Software also has a deep rooted commitment to the academic community, regularly conducting workshops and academic training sessions for engineering students in Pune and Mumbai region.
